Description
Walter S. Feldman, relief print on Japanese paper. SLR. Dated & numbered '1/20', in margin. Dimensions: 8" x 10" (image), 16" x 18"(sheet). Unframed. Double ply museum mat. Feldman excelled at printmaking. In 1952, he won the print prize at the Metropolitan Museum of Art launching his love of woodcuts and reputation as a leading printmaker. A lifelong printmaker his mastery of the medium was without limits. He continued experimenting throughout his career and this beautiful 2011 relief print series evidences the complexity of his designs. Walter Feldman completed his art study with a BFA from Yale University School of Fine Arts in 1950 and an MFA from Yale School of Design in 1951. A student of Josef Albers, Feldman absorbed many of the Albers' concepts. Then he evolved a more expressionist style with a particular interest in symbols.
