Roger Maris was an exceptional baseball player, forever remembered for his record-breaking 1961 season. Playing for the New York Yankees, Maris captured the nation's attention as he chased Babe Ruth's single-season home run record of 60. On October 1, 1961, Maris hit his 61st home run, breaking Ruth's long-standing record. Despite facing immense pressure and scrutiny throughout the season, Maris exhibited remarkable focus and grace under pressure. He won back-to-back AL MVP awards in 1960 and 1961. Though his record stood for 37 years before being broken by a juiced-up Mark McGwire, Maris's achievement remains one of the most iconic moments in baseball history.
