Description
Updated. Group of tribal weapons, South Pacific Islands including Bougainville, Solomon islands, etc and Amazonian, Brazil or Amazon River Basin. Of the five bows: two are strung, one has a frayed and broken string, and two are unstrung. The longest of these measures approximately 76" and the shortest, 50 1/2". Also included are 18 arrows with various style tips. Some are fletched and some not (some feathered merely as decoration). The longest measures approximately 75 1/2" and the shortest, 56". All exhibit wear consistent with age and several appear to be in various states of construction (or deconstruction). Two wooden spears are also included. The four pronged fishing spear measures approximately 110" and the more traditional spear 80". Accompanying all of these is a small but comprehensive reference book entitled "Design Work as Shown on Bougainville Arrows and Spears" by the Reverend A.H. Voyce (Trinity Press Rabul, 1973). Unfortunately someone has scrawled a series of numerical figures across the cover but the publication is in otherwise very good condition with wear consistent with age (some dogearing of pages and toning) but still tight binding. From the collection of a world traveler of 45+ years who has circumnavigated the globe via sailboat. Keywords: weapons, weaponry, tribal
