Description
Joe Norman (American, b. 1957). "Berlin Autumn", 1998. Lithograph on Rives BFK wove paper. Signed, dated with edition number ‘20/20’ in pencil on mat. Dimensions: 20” x 14 ½”. Framed under plexiglass 24” x 21”. Widely considered the most important African American lithographer of his generation, master draughtsman Joseph Norman has sought to retell hidden, muted, or silenced stories of the African American experience. His expressive work and use of symbolic motifs communicate a vivid sense of place, history, struggle and hope. This image was one of the works of art from the Berlin Autumn series exhibited at the Butler Institute of American Art in 2001.
