Description
This is an excellent double-page map of North America. The just post Civil War-period map shows the United States with evolving territorial borders. The newly created Nevada appears west of Utah Territory with the tip still belonging to Arizona. Colorado is to the east of Utah with Denver City, Colorado City and Pike's Peak located, a likely reference to the Pike's Peak gold discoveries of 1859. The map locates Indian tribes, railroads, completed and proposed, the U.S. Mail routes, and the route of the Pony Express. Other details include topography, rivers, lakes, settlements, etc.
