Description
Very early lidded abstract ceramic pot by noted California ceramicist, Raul Coronel c1950s. Unmarked but confirmed by Gerard O’Brien of Reform Gallery in Los Angeles.Coronel attended the University of Hawaii in 1951 where he studied art and then studied at the College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland, CA where he worked alongside Peter Voulkos and studied under Marguerite Wildenhain. He completed his B.A. at the California State University, Los Angeles. Coronel would later continue his studies at the University of Southern California where he would receive his M.F.A. By 1955, Coronel opened up a ceramic studio and store in Venice called “Stoneware Designs West” where he would continue to create his work until his retirement from ceramics, 5.5” Dia x 6” H.
