Description
6th century AD . A matched pair of bow brooches each comprising a rectangular headplate surrounded by stylised bird-head motifs, incised design to the centre, niello-inlaid border and central bulb above; the bow with median niello-inlaid band, segmented lateral panels; the footplate lozengiform with zoomorphic lappets, median niello-inlaid band and three domed lobes; pin-lug and catchplate to the reverse. 119 grams total, 10 cm (4"). Property of a European gentleman living in the UK; formerly in a private collection formed in the 1990s. [2]
