Description
Japanese Porcelain Kutani Vase, probably Meiji-Taisho Period in date, is finely painted in overglaze enamels with gold details. Floral Motifs--peonies, plum blossoms, orchids, chrysanthemums and bamboo--create the rich decorative plan embracing the vase. The dense floral design is set against a moriage white dotted background in slight relief. Branches of plum blossom flowers are painted in enamels over the gilt ground dominating the lower part of the vase. Moriage white enamel dots elegantly accent the blossoms. Gold further embellishes the ornate surface--the moriage technique describes the interior of the peonies and gold bands of geometric design encircle the neck, shoulder and base. The base bears the Kutani stamp . The vase comes with a tomobako with inscriptions on the side and interior of the lid.
