Description
Japanese Lacquer Picnic Box (Sagejubako) probably 18th century in date, is comprised of a stand holding serving pieces --the jubako with 4 tiers; a sake flask made of two trunks of bamboo with a copper stopper; a square tray decorated with pines at the Hamamatsu shore; a cup; a holder with 7 trays (not original to set). Each piece is richly decorated with motifs in gold and silver over a fine nashi-ji ground. Fall motifs of chrysanthemums, maple leaves and silver waves are the predominate decorations. A mythical beast frolics with peonies on the top.The silver handle is attached with fasteners in floral shapes. The set comes with original 18th century box.
