Description
A Tsogo carved wooden mask, Gabon, Central Africa. Early to Mid 20th century. According to research such masks were used during bwete/bwiti initiation ceremonies for young people in the community. Wood, kaolin and other pigments. The masks were worn during Iboga ritual and trance divination. The mask measures 9 x 6.75 inches / 14 inches on professional custom display stand. Provenance: A Brussels Belgium Art Gallery/Dealer.
