Item Details

Description

Extremely rare quarter-plate leather case, unlisted in Berg and Nolan references. It is a leather variant of the thermoplastic case produced by John Smith of Birmingham, England, listed in Berg as the only thermoplastic case that included a credit to its manufacturer and its patent molded into the design. Smith filed patents for his thermoplastic cases in 1859 and 1860.
