Description
This 1752 copperplate engraving by Jacques Nicolas Bellin depicts Tokyo, also known as Jedo, the old name for the capital of Japan during the Tokugawa shogunate era. The map is nicely detailed and among the oldest obtainable maps of the great city. The imperial palace grounds are shown in the center. Published in Paris as part of Anton Francois Provost’s ‘Histoire General des Voyages, ou Nouvelle Collection de Toutes les Relations de Voyages’, this map measures 15” x 10” and is in excellent condition. Authenticity is guaranteed.
