Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. 17th to 19th century CE; East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 1928 CE. A collection of 5 various Asian silver, brass, and wood currency. The 2 oval pieces are from Thailand, the smaller is a brass Lat coin (boat / canoe money), and the larger is an 86% silver Hoi coin (tiger tongue), a larger denomination of Lat coins. The Chinese wood bamboo tally is from 1928 CE and comes with paper notes and translations for the various characters. The ring is 93% silver, used by Northern Thai people, such as the Akha and Lahu, as wearable wealth, functioning as heirlooms and dowry- silver was also believed to provide protection to the wearer. The 95% silver tael ingot is a 19th Century Chinese sycee with cut marks from testing the fineness.
