An original antique style oil painting on canvas. A Biblical figural landscape depicting The Transfiguration of Jesus, an event described in the New Testament, where Jesus is transfigured upon a mountain, flanked by the Old Testament figures Moses and Elijah, and becomes radiant in glory. The work has been popularized by a number of important Renaissance and Old Master artists, including Raphael (1483-1520). As in Raphael's work, the subject is combined with the next episode from the Gospels (the healing of a possessed boy) in the lower part of the painting. No apparent signature. Unframed. Presented on wood stretcher.
