A pair of vintage to antique Chinese brass candlestick holders. Modeled as large crane birds holding in their beaks coiled eels that support candle bobeche cups, and standing on the backs of dragon turtles, legendary creatures combining the shell of a turtle with a dragon's body and head, and considered a positive ornament in Feng Shui, symbolizing courage, determination, fertility, power, success, and support. As birds with a long life span, cranes are associated with longevity, immortality and wisdom, while the eel represents the Yin and Yang energies, and is a symbol of carnal love. No apparent signatures. One piece is slightly taller than the other. The larger candlestick measures approximately 11.25" x 2.5" x 3.75".

Condition: Good overall condition having mild age related surface wear, with evidence of patina and verdigris. Estate fresh to the market.
