A sought-after modern woodcut titled "The Torment of Hypocrites" (FO 67) IN 23 by Salvador Dali. From the artist's series "The Divine Comedy." This specific woodcut is from Inferno -- "and I behold a black devil come running behind us up on the rock." Unsigned edition of 2900. Cataloged in Dali Illustrator, pg 149. In 1950 to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the birth of Dante, the Italian government commissioned Salvador Dali to illustrate one of the most important works of Italian literature, Dante's "Divine Comedy." Between 1951-1960, Dali painted 100 watercolors in preparation for the publication of The Divine Comedy. In 1963, the artworks were released in woodcut limited edition prints. From a private collection. Original paperwork from Park West Gallery on verso. Dimensions: 19.25"h x 17"w x 1.25"d (framed). In very good vintage condition. Salvador Dali (1904-1989) was a Spanish painter who was one of the most influential and celebrated artists of the 20th century. Known as one of the founders of the Surrealism movement, he became an artistic icon. His work today can be found in countless museums, galleries, and institutions across the world, and his impact on the modern art world will be remembered for generations to come.
