Description
A fanciful woodcut print depicting a distinguished gentleman shuffling playing cards by Jim Flora. Signed in the plate on the lower left. The style in which the woodcut was created is a nod to early 20th century modern German Expressionist woodcuts. Flora created a series of woodcuts that are similar in style and according to his website, "These woodcuts have not been republished since their first appearance seven decades ago. The location of the original wood blocks is unknown." Dimensions: 18"h x 16"w x 1.25"d (framed). In excellent vintage condition. James Flora (1914-1998) best known for his distinctive and idiosyncratic album cover art for RCA Victor and Columbia Records during the 1940s and 1950s, was also a prolific commercial illustrator from the 1940s to the 1970s and the author/illustrator of 17 popular children's books.
