Description
Sengoku-Momoyama Era (1450-1600) precious and signed samurai armor from famous armorer family Myochin (active from Heian era, 794 after J.C.). The Gomai dou (5 pieces of dou Gusoku) is all decorated with gold-painted Kachimushi (dragonfly). The heavy all-iron Ken-suji kabuto is signed Muneko Myochin. The maedate (front decoration) is a stunning big Dragonfly. The menpo is enormous and expressive. The sleeves show some wear but are still tight. A very nice hitsu on legs (armor box) with a hidden drawer is included. Black wood base is not. Overall a remarkable armor, a museum piece with a theme that illustrates what the Bushido (samurai attitudes, behavior and lifestyle) is: a samurai, like the Dragonfly, never shows fear, never backs up, and will fight with honor until the end. Circa 1580. Hitsu measures 23 inches H x 17 x 17, armour as displayed measures 63 inches H (excluding black stand) x 18 W x 18 deep.
