A Japanese Shibayama boxwood elephant figure, dating from the Meiji period, the elephant be jewelled in MOP ,coral ,ivory and various colored inlays on a wood ground with the headdress and strapwork in lacquer,the elephant raises its head and trunk upwards, over its four thick legs. come with a customized sturdy wooden base with four stout feet. Overall H: 13"(33 cm) Provenance: Collection of a private Connecticut collector
