Item Details
Description
Carlos IV showcase niche; Spain, circa 1790.
Carved wood with marquetry.
It preserves original tufts in the upper part, which shows damages caused by the passage of time.
Measurements: 110 x 80 x 18 cm.
Niche in the form of a neoclassical architectural frame made of carved wood decorated with marquetry elements. It follows a clearly architectural structure, with refined, clean and markedly geometric lines, typical of classicist aesthetics. It stands out for the capital and the pilasters that follow the main lines of the structure, shaped according to a clearly classical criterion of order and clarity. Continuing with the architectural inspiration, the frame has a base and a lintel.
Charles IV's furniture is Spanish neoclassical, although this language began to develop in the time of his predecessor, Charles III. However, neoclassicism in our country will always be closely linked to the figure of Charles IV, from his youth as Prince of Asturias.
