Martin Brothers is a pottery maker in London, England by four brothers. The workshop lasted from 1873 to 1914, producing a unique style of pottery. The potteries they made are highly regarded by collectors around the world as highly artistic because of its unique expression and high technical skill. The Wally Bird series is their representative work. It goes beyond the category of pottery and can be said to be a sculptural work, characterized by its bold yet precise form. Salt glaze is a technique that was brought to England from Germany in the 17th century, and although it is expensive due to its high degree of difficulty, it is popular among pottery enthusiasts for its unique beautiful luster. The expression of tilting his head and glaring at me is strangely human and lively, and very attractive. The expression that makes you feel British humor is probably the reason why people love it. When the head is removed, the inside of the main body is hollow, and it was originally a container intended to store pipe tobacco.A work from the same series was sold for about $100,000 in February of this year, demonstrating its popularity. In addition, more than 100 works by Martin Brothers are exhibited in "The Box", a multi-purpose space for art and cultural heritage that opened in Plymouth, England in 2020.It is a valuable work that is rarely exhibited in the Japanese market, and is one of the lot of attention for this sale.
