â€œMerry Drollery Compleat,” is a rich compilation of lively poems, songs, and wit-filled prose first published in three parts in 1661, 1670, and 1691. This 19th-century reprint of this literary classic, now undertaken by Joseph Woodfall Ebsworth, resonates with equal vivacity and wit of the original. Ebsworth, a reputable 19th-century English clergyman with a keen interest in ballads, poems, and art, was also acclaimed for his literary reprints of popular poetic literature. His editorial work brought to life the older, popular poetic literature of â€œThe Westminster Drolleries” of 1671 and 1672, â€œThe Merry Drolleries” of 1661 and 1670 and â€œThe Choyce Drolleries” of 1656.
