Description
Churchill, Manitoba. Softwood. A rare carved towel rack from Churchill, Manitoba with a plain backboard of rounded upper and lower edges and filled with a shallow carving depicting railway tracks, a steam shovel, and grain being loaded from an elevator onto a ship. All of this is centred by a round shield carved with: "Churchill, March 1929 H BAY". Additionally, the upper left corner shows a tress and moose head; the upper right depicts three canoes on water and a steam shovel carved with "50204 CN". All of this commemorates the arrival of the Hudson Bay Railway to Churchill, Manitoba, Canada's only Arctic Port. Marked, "Make (?) J...", carved cursive signature on back is indistinct. 8" x 17.75" x 4".
