Antique Chinese Famille Rose cloisonne enamel vase. Multi-color flowers with visible partition wires, blue and green enamel background with brass wire. Unmarked.

The vase is 5.1/4" [13.3cm] tall, c.2.3/4" x 1.3/4" [7cm x 4.4cm] across at the middle, top & bottom, a few small surface damages and one larger [c.1" x 3/4": see photos], good good condition.

Cloisonne is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects with colored material, enamels or gemstones, held in place or separated by metal strips or wire. Chinese cloisonne is sometimes confused with Canton enamel, a type of painted enamel on copper that is more closely related to overglaze enamels on Chinese porcelain, or enameled glass. In contrast to Cloisonne, Canton enamel is painted on freehand and so does not use metal wire partitions to hold the colors separate.
