This lot is located in Chicago.
Property from the Estate of Ward Gerard Gosselin, Batavia, IL
Ward Gerard Gosselin, known as Gerry to friends and family, was born in Aurora, Illinois to William Ward and Margaret (Bereman) Gosselin. After graduating from St. Ambrose University, he married Jeri (Bowman) Gosselin with whom he had five children. Mr. Gosselin earned his MBA degree from University of Toledo and spent the rest of his career at Lyon Metal Products, eventually becoming President and Owner.

After being introduced to the world of antiques at a young age by his Uncle, John Bereman, who was also an avid collector from the time period, Gerry Gosselin was an accomplished antiquarian who enjoyed a lifetime of travel and collecting. He was particularly interested in French history and the decorative arts of the 18th and early 19th centuries. During the course of his collecting, he met and befriended numerous dealers and fellow antiquarians, chief among them Richard "Buzz" Norton. Mr. Norton was the owner of Lake Forest's prestigious French and English antiques shop The Country House, a family business for more than seventy years.

Gerry Gosselin's diverse collection of French furniture, ceramics and works of art reflects thoughtful study and a connoisseur's taste. An additional sequence of property from the Estate of Ward Gerard Gosselin will be offered in Hindman's October 11 The Collected Home auction.
Condition
The clock appears to be overwound; both pins resist attempts to wind. The hands can be manually advanced, and the pendulum arm swings when they advance. A noise can be heard as though the hammer is preparing to strike the chime at the hour and half-hour, but the hammer does not actually move. A pendulum is present, but no winding key. The case is in overall stable, attractive condition. The gilt elements have a bright luster, having been re-gilded, though not recently. There are minor instances of greenish oxidation which are visible through the gilding. The figural details surrounding the face have a lovely, green patina. The face is somewhat discolored and the enameled numerals are slightly rubbed away. Lacking a rear case cover, so the works are exposed.

Condition reports are available upon request. All lots are sold “as is,” in the condition they are in at the time of the auction. The physical condition of lots can vary due to age, normal wear and tear, previous damage, and restoration. Prospective buyers are strongly advised to inspect a lot personally or through a knowledgeable representative prior to bidding. The absence of any reference to the condition of a lot does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Prospective buyers must review and agree to the Conditions of Sale before participating in an auction, and it is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure that they have requested, received and considered any condition report.
