明 白玉竹節式髮簪

Fine Buddhist Stone Carvings, Jadeite Carvings, Ceramics, and Works of Art from the Little Meditation Retreat Collection (Lot 1032-1066)

The owner of "Little Meditation Retreat," born in 1949, embarked on his educational journey at Hong Kong's Tak Ming English School Primary. During the 1960s, he completed his studies at the Hong Kong School of Fine Arts, majoring in Western painting and sculpture. This pivotal period marked the genesis of his career as a sculptor, eventually culminating in the establishment of his own workshop.

Fortunate to have the opportunity to study under the esteemed Hong Kong antique collector, Mr. Poon, renowned as Master Pan of antique shop 'Zun Gu Zhai,' he acquired a strong foundation in Chinese art, reaping immense benefits from the mentorship he received. In the early 1970s, he, along with his family, immigrated to New York, where he pursued a career in painting. Simultaneously, he devoted his leisure time to the study and collection of Chinese antiques. His particular areas of interest encompassed ancient Chinese sculpture, antique ceramics, jade artifacts, and traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy.

At an opportune juncture, he had the privilege of studying under the preeminent Chinese art collector and scholar, Mr. C.C. Wang, significantly enriching his knowledge in the realm of Chinese art. As time goes on, he eventually retired, finding solace and fulfillment in the world of gardening, nurturing a profound love for flowers and plants.

With over four decades of remarkable expertise and a keen eye for art, the owner of "Little Meditation Retreat" meticulously curated a collection of treasures. Today, he has entrusted California Asian Art Auctions to share these invaluable treasures with art enthusiasts from across the globe, marking a momentous milestone in his lifelong journey.
