In his 1964 book The John F. Kennedys: A Family Album, photographer Mark Shaw recalled the atmosphere and activities of the Kennedy clan when they gathered at the family's Hyannis Port compound: 'Typically the family was together, always celebrating birthdays, parties, anniversaries, conscious of outdoor life, the beach and the air. Most afternoons were spent along the water, walking, talking and playing with children.' (p. 158)

This photograph is in generally good to very good condition. The following are visible in raking light: a 2-inch crease near the upper right edge; some faint hairline scratches; and some scattered, soft impressions. A 1/8-inch circular stain near the upper edge is visible upon close inspection. The edges are worn and the corners are bumped and creased, some of which break the emulsion. The reverse is soiled. The upper edge is hinged to board.
