Description
A George III Irish provincial silver milk jug, Cork circa 1790 by Samuel Green Of ogee oval form with a reeded handle leading to a reeded rim. The body with bright cut decoration of oval cartouches adjoined by trailing foliage, otherwise with bright cut bands, one cartouche engraved with initials MAC in cursive script. Marked underneath with incuse maker’s mark SG, and STERLING. Length – 13.7 cm / 5.4 inches Weight – 159 grams / 5.11 ozt A large Cork teapot marked for this maker was sold these rooms, 23 March 2023, lot 431 (£1500 incl. prem).
