Late 18th Century Turkish Ottoman Embroidered Robe (Anteri). Striped silk brocade adorned with intricate polychrome silk embroidery, depicting meandering vines in full bloom. The inner lining is made of fine cotton, and the robe is elegantly bordered with crochet silk edging. Size: 53'' x 68'' (135 x 173 cm).The "Anteri" holds a special place in Turkish culture as a traditional women's robe. It served as just one layer of clothing, even during tasks as demanding as working in the fields. This long robe features a front opening that doesn't fully close, making it suitable to wear over a blouse and pants. It is secured in place with a wide sash.On festive occasions, Anteris often have sleeves with slits, which are intentionally overly long. When the hands are clasped together, the sleeve ends gracefully hang down. While many Anteris are recognized by their scalloped edges, this particular piece showcases a unique variation that sets it apart.
