Typed letter signed by United States First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, White House Letterhead at top. Type reads "Dear Mr. Bates, Many Thanks for your letter of September 24. I am more than glad to accept the honorary position to which I have been elected by the American Prison Congress, and am deeply grateful to you and the other members of the organization. Very Sincerely yours, Eleanor Roosevelt" Dated October 1, 1934. Set in wood frame under glass.
