A fanciful white hare with big black eyes and wearing bright red "Snowshoe Hare" feet in a carving interpreting Ian Fancey's impressions of the world in Eastern White Pine. He plays with words and uses humour in his work. Fancey has given a whole new look to the simple phrase: “A School of Fish”. (It was a carving of a dozen young Catfish at their desks with a large Catfish teacher pointing to words on the blackboard.) Ian Fancey’s work appears in public and private collections around the world. Signed, underneath. 12" x 10.75" x 12". Ian Fancey (Born 1940) is a Nova Scotian sculptor and woodcarver. He worked as a meteorologist in the Canadian Navy for 27 years, and later became an antique dealer. He began carving in 1994 when he constructed a small wooden chest for his granddaughter, a project which sparked his passion for the craft. He primarily uses white pine, and paints his creations with bright, maritime primary colours. His work can be found in several galleries and homes across Canada, the UK and Europe.
