Item Details
Description

Property from a Private Collection, Hilton Head Island, SC

Description:

Richard MacDonald (American, b. 1946), Regina Luminaire, Bronze, signed on base of bronze R. MacDonald, 12/30, on a stepped marble base marked 'Charlene and Bob' (the consignors of this lot). Regina Luminaire is the balance, the counterpoint to Orpheo, from MacDonald's masterwork Cinema Architectonica. She is the light to his dark; the sun to his moon. MacDonaldÕs vision of Regina Luminaire is a feminine heroic figure that is exquisite in form and richly metaphoric. 'Queen of Light' she carries the art of hope and the triangle of perfection. ReginaÕs power and presence is seen in the union of earth, sea and sky. Her being is emerging from the earth, wings show their ability to command the air and the waves show her dominion over the seas.

Richard MacDonald is a figurative artist known for his bronze sculptures and work with the Cirque du Soleil. MacDonald studied at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He had a successful career as an illustrator before he turned to sculpture. His work can be found in the corporate collections of AT&T and IBM, among others, as well as many significant private collections. He has completed several notable commissions, including The Flair for the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Measurements: Height: of bronze 42 1/2 in. x Width: 20 in. x Depth: 13 1/4 in.
