Description
East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A fine decorative sword and sheath hand-carved from ox bone. The sheath features a highly detailed relief of 2 dragons surrounded by an abstract border and incised floral and cloud motifs. Additional incised designs of meander pattern, a dragon, and scrolling decoration adorn the hilt and handguard. Size with sheath: 30.5" L x 4.1" W (77.5 cm x 10.4 cm); without sheath: 18.7" L x 4.1" W (47.5 cm x 10.4 cm)

Condition
Natural fissures / ossification to bone, as well some nicks and abrasions to surface. Sword is slightly loose in sheath, but otherwise, both are intact and excellent with nice preservation of incised and relief detail.
