Description
Ray V Stapp still life oil Painting Sandzen Student..Size is 16” x 20”..Ray Stapp was born in Norton, Kansas, in 1913. He received a B.F.A. degree from Birger Sandzén in 1937 and also completed an M.A. degree at Teachers College, Columbia University and a D.Ed. degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1952 and 1963 respectively. Ray's early years as a teacher between 1939 and the mid 1940s were at Beloit, Kansas, and Muskegon, Michigan. He returned to Bethany College in 1949 as an Assistant Professor of Art. He taught at the College until 1956 when he moved to Edinboro, Pennsylvania where he was Associate Professor at Edinboro State College.After his retirement from teaching, Ray and his wife Nelouise (Hodges) moved to Denver, Colorado. Ray and Nelouise returned to Bethany on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Art Department in 1990. He gave a talk about his memories and life as both a Bethany student and teacher, which was greatly appreciated as part of the anniversary celebration.
