Description
Rare circa 1860 framed print titled Pomeroy's Silent Sermon On The Times which was produced for Marcus Mills Pomeroy who was the editor and proprietor of the La Crosse Democrat newspaper from La Crosse Wisconsin. Pomeroy was staunch opponent of Abraham Lincoln and what he termed the radicals who advocated for a military solution to end slavery etc. This very rare print (the only specimen I have seen) was printed by the Western Engraving Company Chicago Illinois. The framed print measures approximately 22" by 21". Condition - some staining as well as age toning. Frame which appears to be its original has lost some of the gesso covering its wood and has some general wear as shown. A very rare Civil War / Slavery related print.
