Description
1848 Midwifery Medicine Pregnancy Female Anatomy Surgery Physiology Monsters
Fleetwood Churchill was a 19th-century English physician who is best known for his works on obstetrics and pregnancy. One of these works was ‘Theory and Practice of Midwifery’ – a medical treatise designed to teach physicians and nurses alike on proper care for childbirth. The largest portion of this book covers the anatomy and physiology of women, discussing care and treatment of women in childbirth.
It includes numerous in-text figures illustrating female reproductive anatomy as well as views of fetuses and babies. One particular chapter in the 1866 edition provides information on plural births and birth defects or deformities (or, as the book calls them… ‘monsters’! p.416)
