Description
1865 Abraham Lincoln 1st ed Life by Phebe Hanaford Gettysburg Address Civil War
“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.”
― Abraham Lincoln
Shortly after Abraham Lincoln’s death, several biographical sketches or ‘Life of Lincoln’s’ were published. Included in them was an account by Mrs. Phebe Hanaford. Hanaford’s biography was notable for a few reasons, but none more important than that it was the first biography of Abraham Lincoln published after his assassination! Hanaford included accounts of his role in the Civil War, his famous political debates, and even a printing of the Gettysburg Address.
