Description
Early White Co. Georgia 1gal Pitcher. One of the most sought after forms in Southern Pottery, the "pitcher." This example has a rich ironish alkaline glaze with traces of a mustard yellowish color runs under the pitchers spout to the base. Pitchers from early White Co. just do not come up, I've seen less than a dozen in my travels and when they're in this condition you just can't pass it up. Strong Craven family attribution. Classic strap handle, beveled base with a medium body to a tapering neck. Condition is well for age, has an outstanding chip repair that was done years ago and is blended to museum quality. Restoration does show under black light. Otherwise insignificant glaze flakes around the rim which is typical for age and use. No cracks or other repairs. A premium example of early White Co. stoneware. Standing 9 7/8" Tall.
