Description

A Morton M5 gas powered radial 'aero engine' tether car, American, 1990s cast alloy belly pan, fitted with battery, fuel tank and 5 cylinder aero engine to rear, geared to a drive shaft connected to the rear axle. The modified propeller assists in cooling the engine that runs on a mix of methanol/castor oil on spark ignition, the rockers require manual lubrication before running the engine, engine number 1111, with grey painted body panel bearing Don Edmunds number plaque M5-01, (used some paint restoration), 24 inches long. The M5 was originally manufactured in the 1940s and was the first miniature radial engine made for model airplanes. It was designed by Glen Morton and was based on the full-size Velie radial aircraft engine made in 1928. The full-size radial engine was much more powerful and reliable than the old rotary design and was used to power large aircraft such as airliners and World War II-era bombers.
