Description
A very rare and interesting wall mirror of gilded wood, inset with scenic plaques of hand-painted porcelain, the top corners punctuated by the heads of an 18th Century gentleman and lady, molded in high relief. Apparently unsigned; c. 19th Century. Dimensions: H 41.5" x W 32.75" x D 4" Condition: Frame apparently rebuilt. Inner frames with a few chips, splits and cracks. Patina and finish loss to wood. Repair and loss to porcelain behind man's head; small nick to woman's nose and small crack to plaque beneath woman's head; some rubbing to porcelain gilding and decoration. Provenance: From a long-established family estate in Little Compton, RI.
