Description

Native American, North America, California, Central Coastlands, Ohlone tribe, ca. 19th century CE. A wearable necklace of fabulous length that can wrap at least twice around itself if not three times to create a versatile accessory. The petite discoid beads are each hand-carved from clam shell - perhaps either long neck clams or rock clams - with a trio of larger beads as the central element and a modern metal disc where the terminals meet; the necklace strand is tied together. Size (necklace): 52.25" L (132.7 cm); (largest bead): 0.55" L x 0.3" W (1.4 cm x 0.8 cm)
