Description
Two Meissen Porcelain Cupids. The first, a figure of Saint George triumphant after slaying the dragon at his feet, with sword held upright in his right hand; his shielded left arm also aloft. The second, a standing beggar, his left lower leg amputated, and on crutches a ragged hat held out in his hand. Both modelled on waisted cylindrical bases. Both painted in vivid polychrome enamels with gilt highlights. Both marked to the interior underside of the bases with underglaze blue crossed swords marks, the first incised L 113. and impressed 156 ~ and with gilt painted 1. The second, incised L 112., impressed 63, and with gilt 56. Mid 20th Century. {Approximate dimensions: 9 3/8" H. overall.}. Condition: Saint George figure absent the blade of his sword and the gold to the guard cross in the right hand repainted. Otherwise, both figures in good condition, with minor wear and minimal surface scratches.
