An exceptional Louis XV Québec pine armoire in original blue paint. Double raised panels on the sides, well carved front panels with scrolling decoration. Original shelves and interior in faded old paint, original fiche hinges, gouge work decoration to the cornice (early replacement?), and overall peg construction. The back shows a good four paneled caisson construction. Lacks original lock and escutcheon, repair required to lower right leg where it meets the apron. The overall curvilinear shape suggests elements of the Louis XIII style. A wonderful "petit exemple" of early Québécois furniture, late 18th century. Measuring, 64 1/2" height x 54 1/2" width (cornice is 57 1/2") x 20" depth (cornice is 21 3/4" depth). Provenance: The Leask Family.
