Description
Leica I (Model A) Nr. 209 with 50mm Anastigmat f3,5 with the original lens cap and worn ETRIN ribbed leather case. Also included is a photo reproduction showing the previous owner with the camera, circa 1938. Robert Edward ?Mike? Gilbert (father of the camera?s current owner) was the son-in-law of Robert Runyon, who gave him this camera. Runyon, born in Kentucky in 1881, was an important American U.S. border and railway photographer in the early 1900s, whose work is collected by the University of Texas? Briscoe Center for American History, in Austin Texas. A renowned photographer, Runyon was also a botanist, the Mayor of Brownsville, Texas, and a businessman in both Brownsville and Matamoros, Mexico.Delivered March, 1925 to M?nich and subsequently upgraded by the Leitz New York Factory at Mr. Gilbert?s request. Working, with cracked but stable vulcanite. An exciting piece of American - and Leica - history. Condition: Excellent
