Description

"Portulano de la America Setentrional. Construido en la Direccion de trabajos hidrograficos. Dividido en quarto partes. Madrid 1809. Aumentado y corre-gido en 1818" (Madrid: 1818), Folio, 121 engraved leaves of plates. Missing front and rear boards, title page, and endpapers, otherwise complete. Plates 20-25 in "Parte Tercera, Puertos De La Isla De Cuba" are bound in reverse and upside down, otherwise all plates are bound in proper sequence.
The "Portulano" is one of the first publications of its kind by the Spanish Government, and the first time a significant group of maps was published on Spanish colonies in North America. The condition of the plates is very good--clean and tight.
