Description
Northwestern Europe, England & France, or United States, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A collection of 4 wood wind instruments: 3 fifes and a recorder with nickel-silver and brass joints and keys, and no discernable maker marks. One of the fifes has a brass key making it a "single key fife." The fife is a small, high-pitched musical instrument similar to a flute, typically used in military and marching bands during the 18th and 19th centuries. Size of black fife: 16.8" L x 0.75" W (42.7 cm x 1.9 cm)
Provenance: ex-Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010

Condition
Abrasions and chips to wood around the brass key on the single key fife. Scuffs and abrasions to wood on recorded and unraveling wire. Patina and wear to brass and wood on all. Not tested for functionality.
