Description
PROBABLY BATEMAN FAMILY, ENGLISH GEORGIAN STERLING SILVER MUG, tapered cylindrical form with reeded accents, applied angular scrolled handle, later personalized engraving to base of "From C.D.F. and M.M.F. June 17 1947 / C H H III". Impressed to side under rim with partially worn "P[B?] / A[...]" maker's mark likely for Peter and Ann Bateman and four hallmarks of a lion passant for sterling fineness, a crowned leopard's head city mark for London, a "C" date mark for 1798, and a King George III duty mark. Total weight: 6.975 ozt. Circa 1798. 3 1/2" HOA, 2 1/2" D rim.

Descended in the family of Governor of Virginia Benjamin Harrison V and U.S. President William Henry Harrison.
Condition
Very good overall condition with some wear, surface scratches, and nicks, a few dents notably along edge of base and to underside, a possible repair at rim and terminal of handle, an area of wear along edge of base.
