[Book of Hours]Hardouyn(Hardouin), Gilles and Germain. Book of Hours leaf from copy of Horae B.V.M. Secundumusum Romanvorn. Gilles Hardouin, Paris, 1510-1532. Printed on vellum, rubricated in red and red with gilt highlighting on both sides. Previously framed by Ferdinand Roten Galleries, their tag and description accomanpying leaf.
The Hardouin workshop dominated the market of printed Books of Hours in Paris between 1510 and 1550. Gilles Hardouin worked primarily as a printer, between 1500 and 1542, and German Hardouin was registered in the Guild of Illuminators. They were among the very few editors capable of both printing and illumination without commissioning other professionals.
Measures: 4 1/2" x 7".
Condition: Hinging slips to verso of leaf. Discoloration to top and bottom edge margin. Otherwise a bright and clean example of a early 16th century vellum leaf from a Book of Hours.
