Several ownership inscription noted from 1635 to 1782. The most influential work of George Herbert and published posthumously shortly after his death in 1633. His poetry is associated with the writings of the metaphysical poets, and he is recognized as one of the foremost British devotional lyricists and one of the early examples of shaped poems in English in "Easter Wings" (p. 34-5) and "The Altar" (p.18).
