Description
A Russian Imperial period parade cherkeska officer of the Cossack troops. Circa: late 19th century to the early 20th century. Made of off white cotton with black and gilded trim on the sleeves, breast, and through the placket. Tailored at the waist with gathers and gathers. Usually girdled with a narrow belt. Knee length. The sleeves are long and flared down. On the chest on both sides are sewn with fourteen gazyrs, nests for rifle cartridges, which were later replaced by wooden tubes. The cherkeska is embroidered with a cross motif. Inscribed with a pen on a sewn cotton piece of fabric, inside.
